EDITORIAL OBSESSIONS

By Phoebe Ann Brooks

Editorial Obsessions is a weekly round-up showcasing our team’s latest obsessions – from our favourite late-night snacks to the most binge-worthy shows to life-changing beauty products.

KATE MIDDLETON

Catherine, Princess of Wales, was greeted with a standing ovation on her arrival to Wimbledon. She made a last minute appearance to centre court where she was joined by her sister Pippa and daughter Princess Charlotte.

Kate surprised fans in a violet cap sleeve dress from Safiyaa, paired with her signature nude pumps and matching bag.

This was just the second public appearance the Princess has made since officially releasing news that she has been diagnosed with cancer.

NUXE HUILE PRODIGIEUSE® OR FLORALE

If you haven’t heard of French brand Nuxe – a name created with a blend of the words natural and luxury – then you have been missing out on goddess-level, soft-blurred, shimmery skin.

But don’t worry, there are no Edward-Cullen-glitter-skin-of-a-killer vibes going on here.

Their hero product, ‘Huile Prodigieuse’, gives summer skin in a glass bottle. The soft golden hue of the shimmer floats in a gorgeous “cocktail of 7 precious 100% botanical origin oils”.

Our editor (and resident beauty addict) recommends using the product as both a hair and skin oil for complimentary shimmer and shine.

Katy Perry is Back

Are we obsessed? Are we confused? Are we obsessed with how confused we are?

Pop princess Katy Perry has returned to our lives with her new single Women’s World and the people are…divided. While some are hailing the release as the anthem of a new era of satirical feminism (mostly Katy herself), others have been calling it a mistake in the wake of the #MeToo movement.

Although Katy Perry may be seeing the satire, the irony is clearly lost on many. It is difficult for us to connect with our own “feminine divine” when we know the track was produced and influenced by none other than Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald, a man who, back in 2014, was sued by Kesha for sexual assault and battery, sexual harassment, gender violence and emotional abuse and ultimately settled out of court.

Audiences have called the collab “tone-deaf” but Perry is yet to respond to the controversy.

Menstrual Cups

Literal poison and toxins in our tampons certainly wasn’t something we had on our 2024 bingo cards but let’s be honest, we can’t be that surprised that a product predominantly used by women lacked research and risk assessments. Thankfully, there are a few alternatives.

While we obviously believe it is up to the person bleeding to choose the product that works for them (period) - we can’t say we don’t love menstrual cups.

Not only are they better for the environment and the purse strings over time, but they also aren’t making the news for poisoning our pussies.

Take a look at reputable brands such as Boots, Divacup, and Mooncup.

The Lionesses

We got a taste for football this summer and now that the Lionesses qualified for the 2025 Euros after a draw with Sweden, we want more!

The England women’s national team are the current champions of the UEFA European Women’s Championship, also known as the UEFA Women’s Euro, and we cannot wait to cheer them along the whole way.

Can the girls repeat their success of the 2022 Euros and do what the boys couldn’t…is it coming home (again)?
