EIGHT MUSIC EVENTS TO BRIGHTEN YOUR SUMMER
Whether you like high-energy performances, soul-crushing lyrics or Latin beats, London has something for everyone to see this month.
ONE TRAIN AWAY: RICHMOND
Central London is filled with fun things to do and places to see but sometimes it's nice to get out of the fast-paced city and have a peaceful day near the river in one of London’s most popular boroughs, Richmond upon Thames.
RESTAURANT REVIEW: MALLOW, CANARY WHARF
I don’t go out for breakfast much because, as a vegan, more often than not, I end up overpaying for mediocre avocado on toast or soggy tofu scramble. But when I recently stumbled upon a video of a glorious-looking brunch at one of my favourite vegan restaurants in London, I knew I had to give breakfast another chance.
ONE TRAIN AWAY: CAMBRIDGE
Think of Cambridge when you want to chill. It’s summer shopping in the market, finding cobbled streets which lead to hidden gems. It’s punting on the river, grabbing a cold cider from the floating bar. It’s cow spotting on Midsummer Common. It’s exploring the history of the Cambridge College sites, one of the oldest universities in the world.
RESTAURANT REVIEW: CASA MOFONGO, brixton
The moment we stepped in, we were transported to the Dominican Republic and it no longer felt like we were in gloomy London but more like we were entering a vibrant cabana near the beach.
ONE TRAIN AWAY: PARIS
Paris is only a two-hour train ride away from London and if you book well in advance, you can get a return ticket for under £150. What’s great about a planned weekend away is being able to book your jump-the-queue tickets and make dinner reservations at the hottest restaurants to make as much of your time as you possibly can.
FILM REVIEW: YOUNG WOMAN AND THE SEA
Young Woman and the Sea tells the story of competitive swimmer, Trudy Ederle, who, in 1926, became the first woman to ever swim across the English Channel.
RESTAURANT REVIEW: LA FAUXMAGERIE’S CHEESE CELLAR, Camden
Following the receptionist down the stairs and through the heavy red curtain into the new Cheese Cellar feels a little bit forbidden, a tiny bit Great Gatsby. But, admittedly, a lot less cool. Because, well, I’m not risking my eyesight or sanity for an illicit drink – I’m just a gal in search of some melted vegan cheese.
