A tale as old as time, when a woman stands up to injustice, the woman is punished for it.

Rebel Wilson has announced, via Instagram, that three producers have filed defamation lawsuits against her.

The “business partners”, as Wilson described the producers in question, are Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron, and Vince Holden.

Wilson has accused them of questionable behaviour, including inappropriate behaviour towards actresses and embezzling funds from the project. She has also claimed they have a history of exhibiting unethical behaviour.

Wilson took to Instagram on 10 July to call out the three producers of the up-coming film The Deb

Wilson claimed that the producers were attempting to sabotage the film and alleged that they refused to allow the film to premiere at the closing night of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), a move described in the video as “devastating”.

On 10 July, Wilson alleged that the producers were blocking the screening at TIFF retaliating to an incident which took place in October of last year (2023) where Wilson claimed she discovered “bad behaviour” that she “reported” when she found out.

Wilson claimed that since reporting the behaviour she has been met with “viciousness and retaliatory behaviour” and said that through the process of making her directorial debut for The Deb, the trio have tried to make her life “hell”.

Whilst the film is completed, according to Wilson, she said that the project is now at risk of being “buried” and not released.

She said: “This is work hundreds of people have put their heart and soul into and this behaviour is absolutely vile and disgusting. These people are forced to sign NDAs, otherwise threatened, and bullied not to speak.”

Wilson concluded her frank expose of her version of events by adding that if the film does not play at Toronto “it’s because of these absolute fuckwits”.

The video has garnered well-needed publicity for the upcoming film The Deb

Prior to comments being disabled one Instagram, user @Erinbarkerjones said: “This has really fucking backfired on them because now I am GAGGING to see this film.”

For others, it has ignited a loyalty to the actress who has recently been at the centre of a couple of say-it-like-it-is interviews and announcements.

Instagram user @amberkacherian said: “Normalize calling people out for their actions” and @lashmajik said: “Rebel, you are going down in history for standing up for what’s right. You are a courageous women, and all of us are standing with you!”

While there are no updates as of yet whether Wilson’s directorial debut, The Deb, will premiere on the final night of TIFF, at least audiences now know who the real “fuckwits” are behind the block.

2004 Toronto International Film Festival celebrates its 49th anniversary on 5 September 2024.
